{"id":1234,"date":"2017-08-08T07:04:47","date_gmt":"2017-08-08T14:04:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/muddyvalleyfarm.com\/?p=1234"},"modified":"2017-08-08T07:04:47","modified_gmt":"2017-08-08T14:04:47","slug":"sweet-silkies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thestablecomicstore.com\/?p=1234","title":{"rendered":"Sweet Silkies!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>My\u00a0white Silkie breeding group produced lots of quality chicks over the 2017 season, and I hatched a couple more colours this year to add some diversity to the flock.<\/p>\n\n<p>I am growing out three partridge and three blue\/black, one of them a frizzle. They are not sexed yet, but the plan is to keep one male and most of the females.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1250\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1250\" style=\"width: 1366px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1250\" src=\"https:\/\/muddyvalleyfarm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/img_6206.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6206\" width=\"1366\" height=\"1094\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1250\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">boy, girl, girl???<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With their distinctive curly feathers, Frizzles look frazzled. They are excellent foragers and broodies, but a bit fussy to keep, because their feathers don&#8217;t protect them from the elements. Next year,\u00a0if all goes well, we will produce sizzle (Silkie x frizzle) chicks.<\/p>\n<p>Gentle little souls, Silkies seem to do best with silkies or other calm breeds. Mine don&#8217;t like to free range, and if they can be persuaded out of their homey pen, never stray more than a few feet away. They make good lap chickens too. Some people put diapers on them and keep them indoors. House chickens aren&#8217;t for me, they produce a lot of dust and dander and I don&#8217;t want that all through the house.
